THC-A, or tetrahydrocannabinolic acid, is a precursor to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive compound found in Hemp. Unlike THC, THC-A is not intoxicating. When Hemp is harvested and dried, THC-A gradually converts into THC through a process called decarboxylation, which involves the removal of a carboxyl group.
How Does THC-A Work?
When THC-A is heated, such as through smoking, vaporizing, or cooking, activating the psychoactive effects of THC. However, when THC-A is consumed raw or in unheated forms such as juicing or eating fresh cannabis, it does not produce the typical "high" associated with THC.
Is THC-A Strong?
THCa isn't as strong as THC because it doesn't make you feel high. But when you heat it up, it changes into THC, which does make you feel high. Some sellers have THCa in forms like crystals and concentrates. When you heat these up, they turn into THC, which can be really strong.
